Most people believe that body weight is simply a matter of calories in via diet versus calories out via exercise. The assumption is that those who cannot lose weight are simply not trying hard enough, they are eating to much , not active enough and its 100% their fault. Slogans all over magazines drive this home “ eat less move more “ But this way of thinking is just not up to date or correct for a large portion of the population. Hormones and learning how to keep them balanced is a major key in long term healthy weight management. A healthy “diet” is not a low anything in fact to little food and to much exercise can actually cause weight gain in some, food can be the cure not the enemy. What role do hormones play in your everyday life ? How was your sleep last night, what are you thinking , do you feel happy or anxious, what was your last meal, are you breathing deeply or quickly ,did you exercise today, do you like the smells around you, is the environment around you loud or quiet? All of these questions are a result of your hormones or impacting them. As your 5 senses interact with and respond to your environment your nervous system is continually communicating with your endocrine system a system that is constantly at work trying to maintain your bodies delicate balance. To much stress, lack of sleep, food intolerances, in some cases over exercising, not exercising enough, digestive disorders, compromised digestion, poor liver function, chronic dieting causing nutrient deficiencies, toxins in our beauty products and food can all disrupt the messages our hormones are sending the rest of our body that that lead to stubborn weight gain, PMS, depression, IBS , estrogen dominance, low testosterone and anxiety to name a few. Proper nutrition, sleep habits and lifestyle should be the ground work for everyone struggling to lose weight.
